Delivering a Fully Integrated Animatronic Marine Ecosystem

In 2017, we delivered a fully immersive underwater-themed zone for a leading European theme park, internally defined as “The Deep Sea World Project.” The objective was to create a walk-through environment where visitors could experience the scale and atmosphere of the deep ocean—without water.

Production Preparation Process

The project was not centered around a single iconic piece, but a coordinated marine ecosystem. At its core stood an 18.3-meter suspended blue whale animatronic installation, serving as the spatial anchor of the zone. Surrounding it, a cluster of 20+ bio-inspired marine creatures was deployed, including kinetic crabs, deep-sea octopus, seahorses, jellyfish, tropical fish schools, and illuminated prehistoric marine vegetation.

Each species required a different motion philosophy. The crabs were engineered with multi-linkage drive systems to simulate the mechanical rhythm of arthropod locomotion—structured, segmented, and forceful. In contrast, the octopus tentacles adopted multi-section flexible control systems to achieve fluid, wave-like motion, creating a dynamic contrast within the same environment.

Beyond motion systems, the zone integrated bioluminescent scenic elements. Surface coatings and embedded LED breathing systems allowed plants and marine organisms to react under UV blacklight, producing a deep-sea fluorescence effect. All units operated under a unified control protocol and standardized power architecture, significantly simplifying maintenance and spare-part management for the park.

In Operation After Completion

Through scale contrast—ranging from 1-meter kinetic marine creatures for theme parks to an 18-meter suspended giant—the installation established immersive spatial compression and visual hierarchy. The full ecosystem has been operating in coordination for nine years, demonstrating long-term system stability and cross-unit compatibility.

More than a standalone product delivery, this project represented a complete theme zone integration solution—an enduring animatronic marine exhibit designed for reliability, immersion, and seamless long-term animatronic maintenance system performance.
