Perth Zoo · 2016 “Zoorassic Park” Government Exhibition Project

In 2016, Perth Zoo relaunched its dinosaur-themed exhibition after an 18-year hiatus. This first-ever return was a government-funded public cultural project and a large-scale animatronic dinosaur exhibition, involving transoceanic transport, park renovations, independent safety reviews, and multiple rounds of pre-opening inspections. We participated in the engineering and manufacturing of the core ultra-large-scale systems, delivered as part of our comprehensive custom animatronics solutions.

Engineering & Fabrication of Ultra-Large Animatronics

All equipment was completed and shipped in December 2015, ensuring its arrival on-site three months before the official opening on March 12, 2016. A government-level animatronic dinosaur exhibition differs significantly from commercial pop-up projects; sufficient time must be allocated for foundation construction, landscape integration, structural fixation, and formal safety audits. In such projects, time control must be prioritized rather than compressed.

This exhibition included several ultra-large installations, including an 18-meter Argentinosaurus, a 15-meter Tyrannosaurus Rex, and a 12-meter Spinosaurus. Delivering an outdoor animatronic dinosaur exhibition of this scale, operating over an extended period, placed higher demands on steel structure stability, drive-system load capacity, and continuous motion reliability. The project incorporated reinforced structural engineering, power redundancy systems, and optimized control programming to adapt to high visitor volume and long operating cycles.

On-Site Installation & Public Exhibition Operation

After opening, the exhibition attracted over 300,000 visitors in its first year, marking a significant increase compared to previous years. Originally scheduled to conclude in May, the exhibition was extended to July due to strong public response. Under continuous high-intensity operation, the equipment remained stable, with no structural shutdowns affecting the exhibition’s progress, providing organizers with predictable operational support.

For periodically recurring public showcases, the stability of the first run determines long-term continuation. The successful execution in 2016 enabled the continued operation of this large-scale public exhibition and validated our engineering reliability and delivery capabilities in government-level projects.
